Family Not A Franchise

Family Not A Franchise

What if the reason church feels frustrating…

is because we’re treating it like something it was never meant to be?

Our culture trains us to expect convenience, comfort, and service on demand—but that mindset doesn’t produce spiritual growth. Scripture shows us something different. The church was never designed to be a restaurant or a franchise. It was meant to be a family. Families develop maturity in us.

In this message, we’ll look at how consumer culture has shaped the way we approach church, why discomfort isn’t a sign that something is wrong, and how serving and participation are actually the pathway to maturity. We’ll rediscover the biblical idea of ekklesia—a movement of people called out for a purpose, not spectators observing an event.

If you’ve ever wondered why church feels harder than expected—or why growth requires more than just attendance—this message will challenge you to reset your expectations and step fully into the family of God.

Church isn’t something you attend.

It’s a family you belong to.

Questions to consider?

When I think about church, do I focus more on what I receive or what I contribute?

Do I come to church expecting comfort and convenience, or growth and formation?

How much of my view of church has been shaped by culture or past experience rather than Scripture?

When church feels uncomfortable or demanding, do I lean in or pull away?

Am I currently participating in the church family or mainly observing from a distance?

After hearing this message, do I see the church more as a family and a movement than a business or event?

In what ways might a consumer mindset be limiting my spiritual growth?

What responsibility related to my faith has God already placed in front of me that I’ve been avoiding?

If serving is essential to maturity, where is God asking me to step in right now?

What would change if I treated the church with the same commitment, patience, and ownership I give to my own family?
